“Run: Book One,” the first in a new graphic novel trilogy about Congressman John Lewis at Abrams ComicArts, has been delayed until August 2019. The book, co-written by Andrew Aydin, and illustrated by Afua Richardson, was set for release on October 18, 2018. In a statement given to Newsarama, Aydin announced:

“Run, like March, requires tremendous attention to detail. Afua and Abrams editorial have been working from the completed manuscript since December 2017 and they need a little more time. The release date will be August 2019. We’re pushing it that far so that Congressman Lewis and I have time during the August recess to be able to travel and do signings.”

Congressman Lewis is currently running for re-election in Georgia’s 5th Congressional District, which he has been the U.S. Representative of since 1987. Abrams ComicArts’ Editorial Director Charles Kochman added that the decision to delay the series came after Lewis, Aydin, and Richardson attended BookCon this year, when the “enthusiastic response” they received “inspired [them] to dedicate additional time to the collaboration of the latest installment of John Lewis’ story.”

Announced back in February, “Run” is intended as the follow-up to Lewis, Aydin, and artist Nate Powell’s award-winning “March” trilogy, which depicted Lewis’s participation in the African-American civil rights movement until the passing of the Voting Rights Act in 1965. The new run of Lewis’s illustrated memoirs will follow his transition from civil rights leader to elected representative, and the first entry will now come out when Lewis has more time to promote the book during Congressional recess next year.
