Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.
– Michel Fiffe’s “COPRA” is not only one of the best comics being published today, it’s also a done-in-one slab of comics completely handled by the creator, soup to nuts. While Bergen Street Comics handles compiling each ’round’ of story in well-designed and produced collected editions, Fiffe himself is still handling distribution of the physical single issues (Comixology has the first 18 issues available on their site) through his Etsy store. Since the print-run on these bad boys tends to be small, the threat of an issue sellout is real. Unless, that is, you get a COPRA subscription direct from the cartoonist himself. The 2016 subscription is now available, and includes not only three issues of the main “COPRA” series, but also the first two issues of a “COPRA” spin-off miniseries! All written & drawn by Fiffe. Every “COPRA” single issue comes on heavy paper with a cardstock cover, so they are built to last. Don’t miss out on getting these issues as soon as they become available!
– In much sadder news, Bleeding Cool has reported that NC-based comic shop Michaal’s Marvels has burned down. No injuries or fatalities have been reported, but owner Michael and his family have lost EVERYTHING, as the store was connected to their home. Please go to the GoFundMe campaign shown at the link to help out with whatever you can for another member of the comics community in need.
– In happier news, the first trade of the most recent “Black Canary” series, which shows Dinah Lance in a band, is getting an EP’s worth of songs released in support of its upcoming release. From whom, you ask? Why, by the band BLACK CANARY, of course! In this case, BLACK CANARY being Joseph Donovan, Michelle Bensimon and series co-writer Brenden Fletcher. Not the first time this idea has been tried for comics promotion, but a neat idea well-executed nonetheless.
– From concrete jungle to real jungle, the new series “Vines” from Ben McCool, Michael Geszel, and Chuma Hill gives us a New York completely overrun by an aggressive infestation of jungle plantlife. Oh, and an ancient Mayan deity summoned from the deepest pit of Hell, in case the plants weren’t enough to ruin your day already. You can find out more at the book’s Kickstarter page.
– If you feel like a Mad Titan before you’ve had your first cup of coffee in the morning, or need that caffeine jolt to feel like you can be the master or mistress of all time & space, or just want to give your “Thanos/Darkseid: Carpool Buddies of Doom” cosplay something to make it really stand out, then this infinity mug is the answer to your prayers. And you don’t have to wipe out half of your entire bank account to get your hand in it.
