Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.

– In an interview with Comics Alliance, Grant Morrison talks about his upcoming stewardship of the long-running comics magazine “Heavy Metal.” Morrison is slated to take over as editor-in-chief of the magazine with the February 2016 issue. In the interview he talks about focusing on “Aesthetic guidance” than actual down-and-dirty editing work, as well as wanting to shake things up and steer the magazine back to its late-70s/early-80s heyday, when it was not only translating work from Moebius, Bilal, and Duranona, but also publishing new work from American artists like Steranko, Simonson, Chaykin, Workman, Corben, and more. We here at Multiversity Comics have been psyched about this news since it was first announced, and I personally can’t wait to get that first issue in my hands.
– Concept art for Captain America: Civil War (aka Avengers 2.5) has been leaked and it apparently reveals which side of the conflict most of the major MCU players have chosen. The art has not been confirmed as official Marvel Studios property, so this may or may not be accurate, but if you’re curious to see who is standing beside whom (literally), then you can check that out here.
– If you’ve got one, pour it out for Bergen Street Comics, the Brooklyn-based comics shop closing its doors after a great 6-year run. The co-owners will be announcing their new plans soon, including an official Launch for their Bergen Street Press publishing venture that’s been keeping everybody in “COPRA” comics and compendiums for the last year-plus. I don’t see them slowing down their contributions to comics anytime soon, despite this bittersweet news.
– Walt Simonson makes a quick video pitch for the upcoming collection of the first arc of his “Ragnarok” series for IDW. Or I should say collectionS, as there are going to be two: an incentive hardcover version with bound-in sketchplate and a standard hardcover edition. No price set on the incentive, but it will probably not be cheap. It will, however, be gorgeous, or as gorgeous as a Thor without flesh or a lower jaw can be. I guess ‘majestic’ is a better term to use…
– Fans of the CW Flash show have been told to expect an appearance by Dr. Light in the new season. And by Dr. Light, they mean the female Japanese version first appearing in “Crisis on Infinite Earths”, not the retconned rapist from “Identity Crisis.” ComicBookMovie.com has a few snap pics from the set showing a woman wearing a decidedly B&W ensemble that would fit right in with Light’s comics attire, but no identifying image of the actress in question was captured (nor has an actress been announced in general). But if you feel like speculating, here you go.
– Mads Mikkelsen would probably have no problem or difficulty playing a hero or leading man if given the opportunity; he’s shown he has the chops to pull that off. But right now he seems content to stay on the other side of the law or cosmic scales, because he’s up for a part in Doctor Strange and another villain role at that. We’ve already got a Baron Mordo; Devin Faraci posits a few other possibilities at the link here. What do you think?
– Iron Giant was the best Superman movie since Superman II. It is FINALLY getting a Blu-Ray release befitting its stature as a modern classic of animation, and a limited theatrical engagement has been announced as well. Make room in your schedules for 9/30 at 7pm and/or 10/4 at noon at your local participating theater as this film will be beamed in as one of those fathom Events deals instead of a normal print/file in hand procedure. I’ve heard mixed things about those types of presentations, quality-wise, but for this movie its worth making the effort. Go after work or take a super-long lunch if you need to, but see this thing on the big screen. I got the chance to do so back in 1998 and I’ve been grateful for it ever since.
– Getting high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and MetaCritic is great, but a real measure of a successful movie is how scathed or unscathed it makes it through an Honest Trailers video. Any surprise Mad Max: Fury Road‘s basically boils down to “There are a few plot holes and Tom Hardy doesn’t do a whole lot but HOLY HELL this movie is awesome!”?
