Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email me at david@multiversitycomics.com.
– “(James) Spader was my first and only choice,” Joss Whedon told Marvel about the man he cast as Ultron in the Avengers sequel. For all the reasons Whedon had to say, I couldn’t agree more. I think Spader was inspired casting, and will be just one more great move by Marvel as a film company.
– “Real female superheroes wouldn’t dress like that,” says the daughter of a woman writing for Geek Dad. The piece is a good one, and one that comes across as less sensationalistic than most recent pieces on the subject. Definitely worth a read, although from my experience, as someone approached by a Power Girl cosplayer at last year’s NYCC whose boob window was perhaps a bit too…open that pursued me to do an interview with her as a member of the press who might be intrigued by her acting ability (her business card said she was an adult film actress), cosplayers on occasion sensationalize the costumes they’re wearing even more than the drawings that inspire them do. Either way, a nice little piece on a sensitive subject.
– Want an awesome “Goodbye Chunky Rice!” enhanced skateboard deck or t-shirt? Well then Robot 6 has the Kickstarter campaign for you to support!
– I’m not one for cosplay, generally speaking, but when I see cosplay for James Stokoe’s Spider-‘Nam, I can’t help but support that. Check it out.
– Speaking of cosplay, this one for Rescue/Pepper Potts from “Iron Man 3” is pretty damn great.
– Yesterday, Matt Bors tweeted a Facebook post from a longtime DC “fan” and good god, if that’s how you feel about the comics the company is making, don’t buy them. Worth a read, if only so you can see it to believe it.
