The Rundown: Todd McFarlane Talks “Spawn” Film, The Atlantic Talks Why There’s No “Wonder Woman” Film, and more

Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email me at david@multiversitycomics.com.

– Todd McFarlane talked the Spawn movie at Toronto FanExpo this weekend, a film he’s looking to deliver a script on by the end of the year for shooting next year. He shares that he views it more as a horror/thriller, less of a superhero movie. I could see that, and I think that’s a better direction to take the character. I have to admit though: why Spawn as a film again? It wasn’t a huge success before, and the comic is way less popular today than it was. Seems like a strange decision to me.

– Massively broad generalizations and a knowledge base that is Wikipedia deep aside, this piece on why Wonder Woman doesn’t have a movie yet over at the Atlantic is interesting, if only because of how weird and frustrating it is. I don’t disagree though: Wonder Woman feels like she should have a movie, if only because Green Lantern has had one already and she is far more iconic at this point.

– Are you going to NYCC this year? Then I highly recommend checking out Gabriel Hardman’s commission list. This guy does not mess around with his ink commissions, and I have no doubt that he’ll give you your money’s worth if you get one off of him. Check it out, and yeah, check out his books that are dropping this week too!

– Image and Skybound are going to be systematically releasing the 10 different covers from “The Walking Dead” #115 that hit some of the biggest moments from the book’s history, with each of them being covered by series artist Charlie Adlard with colors by Dave Stewart. Robot 6 has the first one up, and I have to give them a hand: it was a good choice.

– Could James Robinson have two new Marvel titles on the horizon? That’s what Rich over at Bleeding Cool is reporting, strictly hush hush, and on the QT.

– Want to support good causes and good comics? Paul Allor is having a sale on his book “Clockwork” Vol. 1 (which has a hell of a list of artists on it too), and if you buy it between now and October 3, one third of revenues will to Hero Initiative and one third of them will go CBLDF each. That is a super awesome thing of Paul to do, so if you want to get behind a cool initiative, I suggest you check this out.
