For a while we’ve known that both The Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver would appear in the sequel to “The Avengers”, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”. While the appearance of Quicksilver is maybe a bit foggy now given his role in the upcoming “X-Men: Days of Future Past” film, rumors swirled about the very talented Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”) being cast as The Scarlet Witch.
Now, it’s looking a bit more certain, as Samuel L. Jackson told The Wall Street Journal (in an interview about Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, no less) that Olsen is going to be in the film.
“I don’t think we begin shooting before March of next year,” Jackson said of “The Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the next film to begin shooting in the Marvel universe. ”I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen [who will play the Scarlet Witch], but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.”
While the Wall Street Journal added in the part about the Scarlet Witch, I do believe it’s safe to assume that they’re correct in that regard. I think it’s quite the casting coup, personally, as Olsen is nothing short of pitch perfect casting as Wanda Maximoff. She’s of course stunningly beautiful, but also mysterious and intelligent. Honestly, I think people are going to be floored as her in the role, and I can’t wait to see her as the Scarlet Witch. That said, I’ll have to, as the film debuts May 1, 2015.
