Via CBR, Dark Horse Comics have announced “Savage Hearts,” a raunchy sword-and-sorcery series by writer Aubrey Sitterson, artist Jed Dougherty (“Harley Quinn”), colorist Lovern Kindzierski (“The Worst Dudes”), and letterer Taylor Esposito (“No One Left to Fight”).

Debuting in July, the five-part book will tell the unlikely love story of a barbarian woman, and a faun-like “beastman” who can talk to dinosaurs. “What happens when they team up against an evil sorcerer?” asks the synopsis. “Sides and skulls alike get split and romance blossoms in this all-new jungle fantasy mini-series!”

Sitterson said, “I can’t imagine restricting myself to a single genre. That’s why I’m so fortunate to have the support of Dark Horse Comics and editor Brett Israel, whether it’s on fight comic soap operas, raunchy sci-fi mysteries, or sexy jungle romcoms.” Dougherty commented, “I am excited for readers to get their eyes on this barbaric romance! It has muscular action, piquant comedy, simmering emotion, and was a pleasure to draw!”

“Savage Hearts” #1 will be released by Dark Horse on July 14. It will be Sitterson’s third project at Dark Horse, following “No One Left to Fight,” and “The Worst Dudes,” which will begin on June 2. Per the cover, it will feature a back-up story titled ‘No Kings, No Masters,’ but no details were offered beyond the political symbolism in the logo. Head to CBR for concept art of the characters, creatures, and axes that’ll be featured in “Savage Hearts” in the meantime.
