Over at Bleeding Cool, Rich posted a story about how Terry Moore’s Rachel Rising is growing increasingly untenable to work on as a project for Moore, with sales dropping to a point where he may not be able to keep going on it. This is sadly befitting of a book that we ranked #2 on our Most Overlooked Books list, but this is one of the absolute best books in comics by someone who truly defines the creator-owned spirit everyone has been latching onto in recent years.

Rachel Rising is a book that is completely created and produced by Moore through his Abstract Studio imprint, like Strangers in Paradise and Echo before it, and like those books it is a stellar example of the comic book art form and of the genres it belongs to. Rachel Rising is a horror book, but like everything Moore does, it’s all about the characters, and the creepiness and terror that permeates the pages at least partially because we’re so invested in Rachel and Jet and the rest of the cast. His art is pitch perfect for the story, with clean lines and effective storytelling that elevate every moment.

In short, it’s fantastic, and a close runner-up for our end of the year awards for our Best Ongoing Series top 10. It’s amazing, and you – all of you – should be reading it. So what can you do to help keep this book going, either as someone who already buys it, or as someone looking to jump in?

1. Many people don’t realize is many retailers create their orders based off of what their customers have on their pull lists. If you’re already buying this book, add it to your pull list to indicate to your store that they should order it. If you plan on buying it now, add it!

2. Looking to get started? Buy the first trade on Amazon, Midtown Comics, TFAW, ComiXology or any number of other online vendors.

3. Buy it on ComiXology! The first issue is $0.99! That is a screaming deal.

In fact, the first five people who would like to try this comic out, email me at david at multiversitycomics dot com and I will buy the first issue FOR YOU.

That’s how much faith I have that you’ll like this comic. The rest of the issues are only $1.99, which is a dollar off cover price for the print edition, so if your store doesn’t carry it, you can still buy digitally.

4. Do you like this comic already? Tell your friends! Buy it for them for Christmas! Get on message boards and tell people that this shit is your jam. Tweet about it! Facebook it! You know what to do.

Make it happen folks. Rachel Rising is a comic that finds one of the masters of comic book storytelling writing and drawing a story that is important to him. Incredible creators like Joe Hill, Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba are huge fans. What else is there to say?

Buy this comic.
