Say Hello to Steve Rogers: SUPER SOLDIER!

Just when you thought there weren’t enough new books coming out in July, Marvel has pulled out another book you are (most likely) going to want. From the mind of Ed Brubaker comes the latest chapter in Steve Rogers life, and it is that of the Super Soldier (though Brubaker notes this isn’t a new character name or anything). With a brand new costume and (assumedly) a brand new attitude, Brubaker will once again enter the mind of Steve Rogers, this time with artist Dale Eaglesham (of current Fantastic Four fame).

Don’t fret too much – you’re not going to be buying this book all year. Rather, this will be a four-issue miniseries that I think is safe to assume runs in conjunction with Secret Avengers, the other book Brubaker is spearheading with Steve at the front. It’s also safe to assume that this will show a lot of Steve’s downtime in between the end of Reborn and Secret Avengers/Avengers Prime/everything post-Siege. The book will follow Steve as he “investigates a mystery connected to the Super-Soldier program that created his superheroic abilities,” which sounds intriguing enough. Those who followed Brubaker’s epic Captain America story with the relaunch in 2004 know Brubaker is a helluva long term writer, and his Cap run has been incredibly rewarding with it’s pay-offs.

For a full interview on the subject, head over to Newsarama for an interview with Brubaker. Any further updates on the story will be updated as they come, but for now I can say that I’m looking forward to July a great deal.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
