Marvel Comics have announced a new, ongoing “Scarlet Witch” series, written by Steve Orlando with art by Sara Pichelli. Picking up from last year’s “X-Men: Trial of Magneto,” the new volume will see Wanda Maximoff opening a magic shop, offering her services to anyone in need of help. “When a woman falls through Wanda’s door with a terrifying story of a town gone mad, the Scarlet Witch will have to muster her wits and chaos magic to deal with an insidious threat!”

Orlando, who also wrote Wanda in 2021’s ‘Darkhold’ crossover, said, “the Scarlet Witch has been with me,” so “there was no way I could pass up the chance to work on ‘Scarlet Witch.’ Wanda Maximoff has finally broken free of the shadows she’s wrestled with for years. And now? Sara Pichelli, [cover artist] Russell Dauterman, and I are unveiling the next chapter of her powerful, improbable, magical life. When you have nowhere else to turn… you turn to the Scarlet Witch. And God help anyone who gets in her way.”

“You have been waiting [for the] Scarlet Witch solo [to] return for so long!” Pichelli added. “Finally that time has come, and I’m truly honored my art was chosen to make this happen. Can’t wait for you to see the book.” Scarlet Witch’s first solo ongoing, written by James Robinson with a different artist on each story, ran for 15 issues from 2015 to 2017. Since that time, Wanda’s popularity has soared to new heights, thanks to Elizabeth Olsen’s portrayal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where she headlined the Disney+ series WandaVision, and this year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (which ironically turned the character into a villain.)

The new “Scarlet Witch” #1 releases January 4, with colors by Matt Wilson, and cover art by Russell Dauterman (who also designed the character’s new costume.)
