Because Scott Pilgrim hasn’t had enough awesomeness to it’s name yet, it will now have a short cartoon in continuity airing on [adult swim] (in addition to that awesome movie and that probably awesome videogame). Titled “Scott Pilgrim vs the Animation”, the short will deal with a flashback that happens in volume 2 of the book that deals with Scott Pilgrim right as he transfers into school where he meets Lisa Miller and Kim Pine. The short will have all the voices from the movie, although Jason Schwartzman and Mae Whitman loan their voice talents to different characters.

It looks pretty good, and definitely keeps in the style of Bryan Lee O’ Malley’s work. You gotta love all the promotion Universal is putting into this, and a short on [adult swim] definitely seems appropriate. Hell, I wouldn’t have even minded an entire movie done in this animation! The only drawback is that it’ll be four minutes long, but it will assumedly be on the DVD and who knows – maybe if this does really well, it’ll prompt Universal and the good folks at Titmouse to want to do more!

According to Newsarama, the only thing in question is when it’ll air. /Film says it debuts on midnight Thursday, August 12 (the day before the film is out in theaters), but O’Malley said that’s not the case on his Twitter, so it looks like it’s this Thursday, between midnight and 12:30 split up into two parts and airing during commercial breaks. It’ll be online in full the next day.

For two videos from the short, including both a commercial and a brief clip, check out /film.

And meanwhile, somewhere off in Alaska, David Harper is cheering because there’ll be more Kim Pine.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
