In a recent interview with CBR, Multiversity’s Best Writer of 2011 Scott Snyder teased that come the summer of 2012, his hit Vertigo book American Vampire will get a second spin-off miniseries starring the Vassals from Survival of the Fittest, entitled Lord of Nightmares. The story, just like the first, will run concurrent with the era the main book is dealing with, which in this case is the 50’s (with the main book’s story entitled “Death Race.”)
In terms of what the book is about, Snyder explains,
…it concerns who you’d consider to be the greatest or at least the most terrifying and powerful vampire of all time. And the Vassals mission to contain him and their history with him will play in. It will involve characters I think people have really come to like from that group — both Felecia and Hobbes — as well as Cash McCogan’s young son Gus who’s been growing up under Felecia’s care since the end of Survival of the Fittest.
Snyder explained that the reason for the second mini was two-fold. On the one hand, this allows him to tell the ongoing story of American Vampire through the eyes of humans, something that the main series somewhat lacks. On the other, this will allow Scott Snyder to explore more of the secret history and mysteries of the ongoing, as we’re able to understand the history of vampires from the human perspective. He also teased that there could be more minis like this down the line specifically to follow the human perspective of the story.
No word on if Sean Murphy will return to do the art of this mini or not yet, but we can certainly hope.
Look for more information on the mini come next year.
