Scout Comics have announced “Trim Season,” a new miniseries that mixes the supernatural with true crime, by writer Jake Hearns, artist Mara Mendez Garcia, and colorist Lorenzo Palombo. The original concept by Megan Sutherland, Sean E DeMott, and Cullen Poythress has changed mediums since its inception, becoming a screenplay by David Blair and Ariel Vida, before settling as a comic.
“Trim Season” will follow a group of three women setting out for their summer jobs at a marijuana farm in the isolated woods of Humboldt County, California, only to discover the farm is embroiled in “witchcraft, possession, and cult sacrifice.” The original concept that inspired the comic was loosely based on real events, which saw three women go missing in Humboldt County during the marijuana harvesting season.
Original concept creator DeMott stated, “I immediately thought of old rustic imagery and instantly thought, ‘What if there was a witch in the woods up there running a tweaker cult or cartel type thing?'” He said couldn’t shake the thought of actress Jane Badler (V) in the role of the witch. Whilst “Trim Season”‘s existence as a comic rules out Badler’s acting involvement, Badler is a part of the production still via her MeJane Productions banner, which is in partnership with publishing company Execution Posse for the series.
“Trim Season” is scheduled to debut in Spring 2022, with covers by Rob Prior. You can check out previews of the series’s artwork from the NYCC Ashcan over at Scout Comics.
