Scout Comics have announced “The Electric Black,” a horror anthology title starting next year. Written by Joseph Schmalke (“The Infernal Pact”) with art by Rich Woodall (“Johnny Raygun”), the comics revolves around the titular shop, which resides in a pocket dimension and has a mind of its own, only appearing to those it wants to help down a dark path. The book is narrated by the demonic proprietor/servant Julius Black, who, with his partner Jack, sells items with a dark history to those who enter the store.

James Haick, President of Scout Comics, described the title as “the kind of storytelling and imagery that horror fans live for. We are incredibly excited to be releasing this title under the Scout banner. Joseph Schmalke & Rich Woodall are amazing new additions to our team. We look forward to pleasing our fans with their new and exciting brand of storytelling and imagery.” Schmalke is a classically trained painter who has written and illustrated several crowdfunded horror comics. Woodall is the creator of the self-published sci-fi series “Johnny Raygun,” and co-created “Kyrra: Alien Jungle Girl” with artist Craig Rousseau.

The title will be launched at this week’s New York Comic Con with 300 ashcan copies of the first issue, which will be available at Scout’s booth (#950). But, we can exclusively debut the images right here at Multiversity.

Schmalke and Woodall will be sign copies of the book from 3 to 4pm this Sunday at the Scout booth. For more on the title, here’s the press release:

SCOUT ANNOUNCES NEW TITLE FOR 2019 RELEASE: THE ELECTRIC BLACK

SCOUT WILL CELEBRATE ANNOUNCEMENT WITH LIMITED EDITION ASHCAN AT NYCC

The Electric Black is a horror anthology involving a mysterious shop named The Electric Black. TEB exists in a pocket dimension and seemingly has a mind of its own. It appears to individuals it wants to use or help journey down a dark path. The demonic proprietor/servant and regular narrator, Julius Black and his partner (Jack) lead people through the shop displaying the cursed wears. Like the shop itself, Julius and Jack regularly manipulate the customers for their own devious purposes using objects from the shop. Each forbidden object might look normal, but all have a dark past and secret to unlock. Those that enter the Electric Black never leave without something.

Celebrating the announcement of this very exciting new title, Scout will have a special THE ELECTRIC BLACK: ASHCAN VARIANT, limited to 300 copies, at $5.00 a copy, available for purchase at their NYCC booth (#950). Creator Joseph Schmalke and Artist Rich Woodall will be signing from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 7th.

Creator Joseph Schmalke and Rich Woodall had this to say: “The shop itself exists outside of time in a dark dimension. No one knows when or where it came from, but it can exist in any place in time. Its known motivations are to chillingly present itself to the truly wicked in hopes of possibly furthering their behaviors or to those it wishes to punish and possibly murder. It changes itself from time to time and the inhabitants have been known to get lost for years within its walls (some are simply never seen again). This has lead Julius (the shopkeeper) to believe that the shop is actually alive and requires a regular “feeding”. He is convinced that in order to keep his shop staffed regularly, it must be fed. Spirits also inhabit the shop, who claim to know what is really happening in this strange and terrifying place.”

James Haick (Scout’s President) had this to say about Scout’s new horror series: “This is the kind of storytelling and imagery that horror fans live for. We are incredibly excited to be releasing this title under the Scout banner. Joseph Schmalke & Rich Woodall are amazing new additions to our team. We look forward to pleasing our fans with their new and exciting brand of storytelling and imagery.”

Scout Comics & Entertainment was founded to discover, develop, and support content creators in addition to helping translate their projects to different platforms and mediums. The label has had several breakout hits recently, including ZInnober, Obliv18n, The Mall and Stabbity Bunny.
