SDCC ’11 Aftermath: Thor Goes Missing From Battle Scars

This past weekend at the Fear Itself panel of SDCC, Marvel debuted the above image in promo for their post-Fear Itself “crossover”, similar to how Secret Invasion had Dark Reign and Civil War had the Initiative.

Then, quickly, Marvel released the following image online, with one notable difference from the upper left:

Thor has been replaced with the Serpent – or rather, who I am assuming to be the Serpent (based on how he looks with his regeneration in Fear Itself #4).

So. Why is Thor missing? And what does it have to do with this image:
