SDCC ’11: Fraction and Dodson on a new Defenders Book

Ok, so we guessed that Nick Spencer was on this book, but we still got the general gist of it, right?

Debuting in December, Marvel will be releasing the brand new Defenders book by Matt Fraction and Terry Dodson. The premise of the book will find several heroes who owe the Hulk a favor carrying out a task for him, none of whom really want to work together. According to Fraction, Red She-Hulk and Iron Fist are quick to join in the group, but the others are hesitant.

While Fraction had said in the past in an interview on this very site that he was done with the character, in an interview with CBR he admits to having new ideas for the character post what Duane Swierczynski and Brian Bendis did. Beyond that, he assembled a team true to their original origins that was also fun for him to write. Fraction also notes that the cast will “grow and change” as the series moves forward and a giant cosmic conspiracy enters into the equation, and that the book will never “settle.” Fraction also notes that this book will contain his “new sound”, whatever that may entail.

While the book comes with the typical tagline of having a universe/game-changing secret – right after an event, mind you – it’s safe to say that we’ll have reviews for you come December. Keep your eyes peeled for any additional news we can get you.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
