This year at Comic Con, Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman reunited at a panel where someone asked if there was any hope of Hellboy 3 – to which del Toro responded that there is hope. It’s not one that will happen anytime soon, but it’s something both are interested in – and apparently it’s already plotted out. “The third one is the hardest one because it’s the darkest one and not necessarily has a happy ending,” said Guillermo del Toro. “The third one is epic. It’s gigantic.”

Perlman also agrees that the film needs closure. “There are things that are introduced in the first two films that have to be resolved in the third one. So for us to not make the third film would be kind of an injustice to [the fans],” said Perlman. “And it is epic. It’s huge, what he wants to do. It would be so cinematic and well worth doing.”

So Hellboy 3 could happen. Eventually. Maybe. Perlman won’t do it without del Toro, and vice versa, so if they have it in them for more we will see it some day.. And hopefully there will be a room full of kittens again, and perhaps some pancakes if we’e lucky.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
