It’s no secret that Lucasfilm’s publishing division has been firing on all cylinders as of late. Through Marvel, they have had many successful ongoing series and mini-series since Disney acquired all of the rights to the Star Wars franchise. They’ve also had success through their novels and YA content. At yesterday’s Lucasfilm Publishing Panel, IGN reported that Marvel have announced they will launch a 30-issue maxi-series which will span across each era depicted in the films.
The maxi-series will be broken up into three separate ongoings, each one devoted to a certain era:
– Jody Houser will write “Star Wars: Age of Republic.”
– Greg Pak will write “Star Wars: Age of Rebellion.”
– Tom Taylor will write “Star Wars: Age of Resistance.”
According to Houser, whose series begins in December, “Age of Republic” will consist of eight issues over four months, “and each month is going to have a hero story and a villain story.” Her run will consist of stories focusing on Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jango Fett, Anakin Skywalker and Count Dooku, and Padmé Amidala and General Grievous.
Marvel also announced a five-part comic book adaptation of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” starting in October, scripted by Robbie Thompson with art by Will Sliney. A prose novelization by Mur Lafferty will also be released on September 4.
Lucasfilm then revealed a new all-ages horror book, “Star Wars: Tales From Darth Vader’s Castle,” from IDW. Cavan Scott will pen the five-issue series with art by Derek Charm, Chris Fenoglio, Kelley Jones, Corin Howell, Robert Hack, and Charles Paul Wilson III, and covers from Francesco Francavilla. The book will consist of multiple horror stories centered around a group of travelers stranded on the planet Mustafar, home to Darth Vader’s infamous fortress, as seen in Rogue One, and currently the central plot of Marvel’s “Darth Vader” from Charles Soule and Giuseppe Camuncoli. The weekly series will be released in October.
Furthermore, Lucasfilm announced two new novels. Scheduled to be released on February 19, 2019, “Star Wars: Master and Apprentice,” written by Claudia Gray, will examine Ob-Wan Kenobi’s relationship with his master Qui-Gon Jinn. E.K. Johnston’s “Star Wars: Queen’s Shadow” will explore Padme Amidala’s transition from Naboo’s Queen to its Senator between Episodes I & II, and is slated for a March 2019 release.
So while we have some time before for the last installment of the new Star Wars trilogy is released, there should be plenty of content for fans to dive into in the coming year.
