It’s a big year for Joe Michael Straczynski. He’s writing two stories in DC’s controversial “Before Watchmen,” he’s got a new Superman graphic novel coming out, and now — on top of that — he’s going to branch himself out in as many directions as possible.

Announced yesterday night via Deadline, it turns out JMS is launching Studio JMS, a new multimedia studio to handle all of his work. This will include Joe’s work in film, television, video games and future comics, and the studio will be co-run with Patricia Tallman. The studio also has several things already in the works, including JMS’ first directorial debut The Flickering Light, a WW2 film about Leni Reifenstahl, a director of propganda for the Nazi party who “rented ethnic-looking Jews and gypsys, men, women and children who were imprisoned in the Max Glan Concentration Camp outside Berlin” for a new film.

Studio JMS will also be producing a web series for MTV entitled The Adventures of Apocalypse Al, as well as the web series Living Dead the Musical, and Straczynski will also be working on two TV shows, Epidemic (with Will Smith and James Lassiter’s Overbrook Entertainment) and Vlad Dracula with Sam Raimi for Starz.

Not only that, but he will also be returning to Image to revive the relatively short-lived “Joe’s Comics” imprint, which published “Midnight Nation” and “Rising Stars” among other things. Joe’s Comics will return in spring of next year with the titles “Falling Angel”, “Ten Grand”, “Guardians” and “Sidekick”, although creative teams are unknown at this time.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
