SDCC 2012: Terry Moore Brings Back “Strangers in Paradise,” Talks Future

I’m a firm believer in the idea that if Terry Moore is talking about his future in comics, we should definitely listen. And with San Diego’s Comic Con International being his only appearance at conventions this year, it’s a good time to pay attention, especially as he announces the return of Katchoo, Francine and the rest of the “Strangers in Paradise” gang in a prose novel set to drop in 2013.

He’ll release it via his own self-publishing outfit Abstract Studios, and it could be the first of many prose efforts by him.

“I’m approaching 60 and I don’t want to be 65 with a monthly deadline for art pages. I’m thinking about my future — I can be 75 and still write. [The readers] have matured, so I would like to write a deeper, more introspective story,” Moore said.

Moore added that his current comic effort, the renowned by yours truly horror title “Rachel Rising,” will be running for 35 to 40 issues, with his next book skipping to a new genre (like he always tends to do when he ends one of his books), seeing Moore take his first attempt at all-ages comics. His books tends to be pretty adult, in general, but Moore insisted that he is actually quite funny, adding, “I have this urge to remind people that life can be beautiful and funny.”

I support that idea, and have no doubt in my mind that Moore can do whatever the hell he sets his mind to. I really can’t wait to see what he comes up with, but for now, I’ll just enjoy “Rachel Rising” for a little longer.
