With such an astute creative team and a slew of critical and fan acclaim, it was only inevitable that it was only a matter of time. Confirmed via Deadline, “Black Magick”, the Image book from Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott, has been optioned for television by Michael London’s Groundwell Productions, known for producing SyFy’s The Magicians.
The magic/crime drama series stars Rowan Black, a robbery-homicide detective as well as the latest in a lineage of witches taking place in an occult-swept city called Portsmouth. But it isn’t long before the bodies begin to pile up and the strangeness mounts as the two sides of Rowan’s life begin collapsing in on each other.
Rucka, whose other Image book, “Lazarus” (with artist Michael Lark), is in development by Legendary TV, stated that there were many difficult choices when trying to find a home for “Black Magick” but that he and Scott admired London’s passion and sincerity.
The first volume of “Black Magick” is available now, the book itself set to return in 2017 while Rucka and Scott work on “Wonder Woman: Year One” for DC Comics.
