SDCC 2016: Dark Horse to Publish New Serenity Comic

Fans of Firefly and Serenity rejoice! “Serenity: No Power in the ‘Verse,” written by Chris Roberson and illustrated by Georges Jeanty will arrive on October 26th from Dark Horse Comics. The six issue miniseries represents the first time that Roberson has written a story set in this universe, whereas Jeanty illustrated the prior Serenity miniseries, “Leaves on the Wind.”

The book, which picks up over a year after the end of “Leaves on the Wind,” will bring River into more focus. This is apt for this particular series, as the title is drawn from a quote she – played by Summer Glau – said on the show.

Created by Joss Whedon, Firefly was one of those cult television shows that ended far too soon, as has been noted by the success of the characters appearing in other media. This will be the eleventh one-shot, serialized comic or miniseries to spin out of the series, which aired originally in the 2002-2003 television season, and spun off a film, Serenity, in 2005.

Last month, when we did a reader’s poll about Dark Horse’s licensed comics, we got some flack for not including the “Serenity” series in our poll, which goes to show the dedication and enthusiasm of its fanbase, even ten plus years after the show left the air.
