Joe and Anthony Russo are taking on another comic book project but this time, they’re taking their talents to television. Get ready, “Deadly Class” is coming (hopefully) to your TV screen.
Announced by Deadline, Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: Civil War) will produce a television adaptation of Rick Remender and Wes Craig’s Image series “Deadly Class.” The show is currently with Sony and is expected to be shopped around to cable networks and streaming services. Remender will also executive produce the series and he will write the pilot with Miles Feld. Development is so far along that Adam Targum (Banshee) has been brought in as show runner.
At it’s core, “Deadly Class” is a coming of age story. Marcus Lopez, is a homeless kid who is pulled into a school full of the world’s most dangerous teenagers. Sons and daughters of mob bosses, assassins and drug lords all train at King’s Dominion High School for the Deadly Arts to become some of the most deadly assassins in the world.
The series combines your typical teenage drama (romance, drugs, peer pressure) with the kind of violence you’d see in a Tarantino movie. It kind of seems like a no brainer to adapt this into a cable TV series but it won’t be easy. One of the biggest selling points of “Deadly Class” is Craig’s art. It’s one of the most unique looking comic books going right now so I’m interested to see how this aspect is tackled. Unlike many comic book TV deals in the past couple of years, this one seems to be very close to actually seeing the light of day so this will definitely be something to keep an eye on.
