SDCC 2016: Dark Horse Has Overwatch In Its Sights For 2017

Good news for fans of the only gaming craze to stand up to the crushing blow of Pokemon GO’s release: Dark Horse and Blizzard Entertainment have announced that they are partnering up to release Overwatch comics.

Dark Horse currently publishes 8-page digital Overwatch comics written by Blizzard writers with each issue focusing on a different character (and issue 8 focusing on the recently revealed support sniper, Ana). The next project for Blizzard and Dark Horse will be a 100-page graphic novel looking at the origins of the Overwatch strike team. The graphic novel is set to hit shelves next year, but no creative team has been announced as yet. Chances are that we might get some more news on that front at Blizzard’s panel at Comic Con later today. Watch this space for more news on that (also watch that panel for more details on the new hero, Ana)

With this and the announcement of a second volume of “World Of Warcraft Chronicle” set for release in 2014, Blizzard seems set on using Dark Horse to explore transmedia storytelling by exploring those worlds in comic books. I’m just surprised we haven’t seen anything for Starcraft as yet.

Now, give me my Mercy comic. Give it to me, Blizzard, and no one gets hurt.

Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears her, Alice W. Castle is a trans femme writing about comics. All things considered, it’s going surprisingly well. Ask her about the unproduced Superman films of 1990 - 2006. She can be found on various corners of the internet, but most frequently on Twitter: @alicewcastle
