Fans of superheroics on the small screen got a bunch of good news today from San Diego Comic Con.
On the DC side, two new features were announced: Batman Vs. Robin and the Bruce Timm-written and directed Justice League: Gods and Monsters. Timm hasn’t been directly involved with a DCAU film since 2007’s Superman/Doomsday, and is considered one of the truly great minds at DC’s animation department.
Both names are a bit surprising, because according to Comic Book Resources, Batman Vs. Robin is based off of the recent “Court of Owls” storyline, written by Scott Snyder and not really featuring Robin, and Gods and Monsters is not based off of the Dan Jolley-penned “JLA: Gods and Monsters” storyline from the early ’00s.
Over at Marvel, in addition to formally announcing second seasons for Hulk & the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. and Avengers Assemble, it was announced that the Guardians of the Galaxy would get their own animated series as well, in addition to guest-starring on all three Marvel animated programs (the two mentioned above and Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors.
Release dates for either DC films or the Guardians animated series were not announced. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
