SDCC: Eisner Awards Winners Announced

Today’s action at San Diego Comic Con brought the announcement of the Eisner Awards winners, and most of the winners were both unsurprising and deserved. I guess those two go very naturally together, don’t they?

No less, before we get into the list of winners, I wanted to give a few shout outs to some of my favorite winners – namely to “Chew” for winning Best New Series. We’ve talked a lot in the past with John Layman (writer of “Chew”) and he has been an incredibly friendly and gracious person since the moment we started talking with him. His book with Rob Guillory has been one of the biggest surprises of the past year, as it has thoroughly entertained all readers at MC, and I’m looking forward to it just getting better and better.

Props to JH Williams III (clearly deserving of penciller/inker), Jill Thompson (a gem of a woman and phenomenally talented as well), and to the Eisner judges for picking “The Walking Dead”, “Scott Pilgrim” and “Beasts of Burden” for the big individual prizes. I’d praise you on selecting David Mazzucchelli’s “Asterios Polyp,” but there was no other choice to make there.
