The Post-Ressurexion Inhuman world continues to unfold. The first two books -“Royals” and “Black Bolt”- were more cosmic-focused, but now we are checking out the Inhumans still on Earth with “Secret Warriors” by writer Matthew Rosenberg (“We Can Never Go Home”, “Kingpin”) and illustrator Javier Garron (“Inhumans vs. X-Men”, “Secret Wars: Inferno”)

Secret Warriors #1 by David Nakayama

The original “Secret Warriors” involved the secret history of S.H.I.E.L.D. (which would later influence Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and was the first big story from Jonathan Hickman. In an interview, Rosenberg actually describes the book quite simple: “they’re warriors and they work in secret” and discusses alluding to the spirit of the original series.

“The Secret Warriors are a team that is being pulled in two directions at once,” Rosenberg describes. “On one side is the clandestine spy element, represented by Quake. On the other is the superhero side, represented by Ms. Marvel. This book is sort of a tug of war between these two approaches — what is acceptable, what is necessary. Why do we need people flying around with capes on? What does that get us? And why do we need people operating in secrecy?”

The starting team is composed of Agent Daisy Johnson a.k.a. “Quake” who was a central character in the original series, Magister Karnak of the Inhuman Royal Family and more of the new inhumans including Kamala Khan, Inferno, Moon Girl and, of course, her companion Devil Dinosaur. Rosenberg also confirms the team will expand with some unexpected, non-inhuman, characters.

With three books now, a great degree of the known Inhumans have confirmed locations. The only ones still unaccounted for are Prince Ahura, Luna Maximoff, Reader, Iso, Naja, Grid and Maximus the Mad along with his cabal of villains. I honestly would not be surprised if there will be a book focused on Ennilux, one of the Inhuman powers introduced in recent years that several of those character have ties too.

“Secret Warriors” will debut Spring 2017.
