Thunder Comics have announced a new, seven-part, mythology-inspired series created by actor/director Andy Serkis (Venom: Let There Be Carnage) and producer Andrew Levitas (Minamata) called “Eternus.” The creative team for the series are set to be writers Don Handfield and Anastajza K Davis, penciler Karl Moline, inker Andy Owens, and letterer Dave Lanphear. The individual responsible for its colors has not been specified.

“Eternus” will be set in 360AD, thirty years after the murder of the ancient Greek god, Zeus. Since Zeus’s death, the old gods have struggled for survival in the wake of continued Christian interference, with Zeus’s son, Heracles, living in a constant state of depressed drunkenness. After a mysterious individual called Centurion raids Athena’s temple for one of Zeus’s old relics, the old gods become convinced that Centurion is Zeus’s killer, and Heracles is forced into sobriety to protect the only witness of Zeus’s murder in order to identify the killer.

In a statement, Serkis described the series as “an expression of our fascination with foundational mythology and deeply rooted storytelling,” teasing that “Eternus” is the “first glimpse into the world we have been building for so long,” and “just the beginning.”

“Eternus” is the first series to be announced by Thunder Comics, a company that was founded by Don Handfield of Motor Content, Tim Zajaros of Armory Films, and Chris LeMole earlier this year as an effort to “bridge the gap” between film & TV creators, and comic book creators. The series will be financed by Thunder Comics in partnership with producers Ashley Cole, and Chavez Brothers’s Rafael Chavez.

“Eternus” will be launched by Thunder Comics and distributed by Scout Comics in 2022. Rob Prior will be providing the series with its main cover art.
