Yesterday on Twitter, actor/producer/director/writer/mega-hyphenate Seth Rogen tweeted a couple things of great interest to comic fans, particularly this one:
Looks like about seven of years of hard work are about to pay off. I may get to bring one of my favourite stories ever to life.

It sounds like Rogen is working on adapting Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s “Preacher” a Vertigo Comics title that happens to be my favorite comic series ever and one of the many titles that has been bogged down in developmental hell for the past forever. Many reasons are likely to blame for this series never coming to life (amongst them, its incredibly controversial nature, huge story that doesn’t really fit movies and is unfit for anything but pay cable, badly fitting producers/directors on the project), but this is the first time I’ve ever heard Rogen be involved, and honestly, I love it.
He’s a guy who with his writing partner Evan Goldman has proven he can go dark and still be funny, that he can make even the most horrible, strange things funny, and it is clearly something he’s been passionate about if he’s been working at it for this long. I’ve sighed and grumbled at many of the other names that have been attached to this project, but Rogen? Rogen I can get behind.
This doesn’t mean the movie (or TV show) is anywhere near being developed, but it does mean that an A-lister has strong interest and that the wheels are turning in the background. Let’s hope that actually means something.
More on this as it develops.
Update: According to Badass Digest, AMC is taking “Preacher” to pilot. Rogen + AMC + Preacher?
