I have just been informed that “Sheltered” #2, the second issue of Image’s new pre-apocalyptic series by Ed Brisson and Johnnie Christmas, has sold out at the distributor level of its initial print run. It’s not surprising as the book is great, features a dynamite concept and has a bright (if conceptually dark) future ahead of it, with a fruitful ongoing potential to it and a killer creative team who aren’t afraid to take this kind of story in the dark direction it needs to go if our interviews with them are any indication.
Our recent review of the issue highlighted the book as an up and comer, which staff writer Michelle White writing:
By the end of this issue, the slow intrigue has definitely been brought to a crisis – and looking forward, one can reasonably expect that things are going to get more action-heavy. As things stand, though, “Sheltered” is a thoughtful story – one which, like Brisson and Walsh’s “Comeback”, has enough little complexities built in that you could probably discuss and debate it all day.
When I asked writer Ed Brisson his thoughts on the matter, he replied, “I am super thrilled that people are digging it! SUPER THRILLED.” So congratulations everyone who picked up a copy of the book, because you have clearly made Ed’s day.
If I were you? And if I perhaps didn’t already have a copy of the issue? I’d rush to the shops and grab this series before you regret missing out on one of the biggest new books of the year from an underdog creative team sure to be a household name any day now.
