Various reports, including a statement from longtime publisher Rebellion/2000AD, confirm that comics and TV writer Si Spencer has suddenly passed away at age 60.

Hailing from Sheffield, England, Spencer’s comic debut came in the pages of British creator-owned comics magazine Crisis. From 1991 to 1992 he was editor at Deadline, and in 1993 began his work on 2000AD’s Judge Dredd Megazine with “Harke & Burr” and “The Creep.” Later 2000AD work included “HAVN” and “The Returners,” which is currently running in the Megazine as of publication.

Spencer later focused his skills on writing for TV, working on the BBC shows City Center, Eastenders, and Grange Hill, as well as ITV’s The Bill. He returned to comics in the early 2000s at the invitation of Vertigo editor Shelly Bond to expand Neil Gaiman’s “Books of Magick,” and wrote “Books of Magick: Life During Wartime.” His other work for Vertigo included “The Vinyl Underground,” “Hellblazer: City of Demons,” “Slash and Burn,” and the critically acclaimed limited series “Bodies.” In 2015 Spencer’s graphic novel “Klaxon” was published by SelfMadeHero.

Details of his death, as well as surviving family members, are unknown at this point.
