Announced over at Hero Complex, Multiversity favorite and all around wonderful person of high fashion Sina Grace has a new book in the form of “Penny Dora and the Wishing Box.”

Written by Michael Stock and lettered by Hope Larson, the book follows Penny Dora, a young girl who finds the eponymous wishing box right before Christmas. Based on a story by Stock’s daughter Nico, the story behind how it turned from a short reinvention of the Pandora myth by an 8-year old is a pretty great one; Stock read the story on his radio program in LA, which became a recurring favorite for readers, and five years later after losing his job due to budget cuts, Stock linked up with Sina Grace and magic was made from there.

Now the book is a collaboration between Stock and Grace, but Nico as well, who offers ideas to both creators as they develop the series.

“Penny Dora” is set for release in November from Image Comics, and is referred to as a book for fans of “Coraline” and “Courtney Crumin.” Having seen a peek at the book some time ago, I can decidedly say that this description holds up well. Plus, with Hope Larson involved as well, the book has a very solid creative team working together to make this book happen, and I for one can’t wait to see how it all turns out this November.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
