This is a really great and really random thing. Jamie McKelvie and Matt Wilson have teamed up to create some beautiful, iconic covers on “The Wicked + The Divine”, their Image Comics title with writer Kieron Gillen, and the design that they created for the book is a big reason why. It’s simple but it’s so effective, and it fits perfectly to the title. Sure, it helps that they’re phenomenal artists, but that design just works.
Apparently Image and an array of other creators agree, as six Image books will get the WicDiv cover treatment in December from McKelvie and Wilson, including the next issue of “The Wicked + The Divine” itself.
Those books are:
– Kelly Sue DeConnick and Valentine de Landro’s “Bitch Planet” #1
– John Arcudi and James Harren’s “Rumble” #1
– Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta’s “East of West” #16
– Joe Keatinge and Leila del Duca’s “Shutter” #7
– Tim Seeley and Mike Norton’s “Revival” #26
It’s an excellent list of titles, and each of them getting variants from such a gifted duo makes them all the more desirable. Personally, I’m not a big variant guy, but I will be ordering these puppies myself. It’s a great idea though, and I hope this type of unified thinking is something we see more of going forward. The two lend their artistic interpretation to six new story arcs
and series launches
Bestselling artists Jamie McKelvie (THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, Young Avengers) and Matthew Wilson (THE WICKED + THE DIVINE) team up to lend their artistic interpretation to a series of covers for six highly anticipated new launches and critically acclaimed series’ new story arcs coming from Image Comics this December.
“We’re huge fans of all the creators behind these series,” said McKelvie. “So to be asked to provide covers for them all this month was an honour. Hopefully fans will enjoy these glimpses of the characters fired through the WicDiv filter!”
The titles that will feature variant covers by McKelvie/Wilson include BITCH PLANET #1, SHUTTER #7, RUMBLE #1, REVIVAL #26, THE WICKED + THE DIVINE #6, and EAST OF WEST #16.
