The Hulks truly are taking over the Marvel Universe. With three books and a mini-series currently in stores now, it looks like a fourth is coming this year under the pens of writer Rob Williams and artist Brian Ching.
As announced in a Marvel Press Release today, the book will see Skaar separating from the Hulk clan a bit as he searches for a place of his own, assuming he can find that in the untamed wilds of Savage Land. As the press release reads, “There’s something about the Savage Land that speaks to him — the untamed wilderness, an environment where the strong prosper, and he figures he’s the strongest one there is. Of course, he may be wrong.” From the teaser images shown (see the picture here to the left), it looks like we’ll even get a nice appearance from Devil Dinosaur, which is something fans can always get excited about.
Going even further than that, Williams says “Skaar’s the Hulk as an impetuous teenager crossed with Conan the Barbarian. That impetuous nature is naturally going to get him into trouble, and then you put him in an environment like the Savage Land with all its monster dinosaurs and crazy alien tech and it’s a recipe for widescreen high adventure. And smashing. There has to be smashing.” Yes there does.
Skaars original title under the pen of Greg Pak was really quite good, and the character has seen great growth, even throughout World War Hulks. This also sort fits with Greg Pak and Dale Eaglesham are taking the Hulk to the Savage Land, and I would imagine this will spin out of the finale of that arc in the same way that the upcoming Wolverine and Jubilee mini is splitting from Gischler’s X-Men (although, as someone in a forum on the internet noted, why these writers aren’t “cleaning their own messes” is a tad amusing). Of course, this does beg one question: what of Klaws of the Panther? That deals with the Savage Land as well as the aftermath of Doom War. Is the finale of that going to be reflected in this? Only time will tell.
