We’ll give you more in-depth solicit coverage next week, but we had to lead with this.

The above teaser sent over by Image earlier this morning alongside their solicits for February 2013, it appears that “Skullkickers” — after the bombastic and game-changing eighteenth issue — is going to re-launch with a new title and a new #1. Why? Well, everyone else is doing it! This is how you sell comics, people!! And with a cover that pokes fun of DC’s 0 issues and a title giving a wink and a nudge to Marvel NOW!, it’s safe to say that “Skullkickers” effectively ‘wins’ comics for this year (however you’d like to define winning — Charlie Sheen style or otherwise).

Here’s the solicit for the issue:

UNCANNY SKULLKICKERS #1
story JIM ZUB
art EDWIN HUANG
cover CHRIS STEVENS
FEBRUARY 27
32 PAGES / FC / T
$3.50
The UNCANNY SKULLKICKERS: Two hard-headed mercenaries kill monsters and cause havoc in their search for money, fame and adventure! A bold new direction! A perfect jumping-on point! A newly added adjective! Our nineteeth issue, but also a new issue #1! It’s all here, people! Don’t make us use more exclamation marks!!
P.S. Retailers: Rack this comic beside other “Uncanny” comics you may have hanging around and sell a ton of copies. Do it.

The note to the retailers is easily the best part of that. Easily. Well played, everyone.

Image has a history of parodying Marvel’s big teaser lines, as you may remember from the “I Am A Guardian” gag a few years ago. I doubt we’ll be seeing many more things like this, but still, it’s certainly an excellent gag on behalf of Jim Zub, Ed Huang and Image.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
