Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics have announced “Creepshow,” a five-part anthology based on the cult comedy horror film and Shudder series of the same name. The comic, which launches this fall, will feature stories by creatives from the worlds of comics, movies, TV and more, including Chris Burnham (“Die!Die!Die!”), Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series), Steve Langford (the TV version of Creepshow), Josh Malerman (Bird Box), David and Maria Lapham (“Stray Bullets”), Steve Foxe (“Razorblades”), John McCrea (“Hitman”), and Kelley Jones (“Batman,” “The Sandman”).

Released in 1982, the original Creepshow film — directed by George A. Romero and written by Stephen King — followed a boy (played by Joe Hill) reading the titular horror comic, hosted by the Creep. It spawned two sequels, and a graphic novelization by Bernie Wrightson, before the Shudder series launched with make-up artist, producer and director Greg Nicotero at the helm in 2019.

Nicotero, who is also an executive producer on The Walking Dead, commented, “Growing up a fan of horror comics and Famous Monsters, I will never forget the thrill of seeing a new issue hit the stands… thumbing through the pages with the anticipation of diving into a dark twisted and outrageous world filled with ghouls, zombies and the classic come-uppence. I’m very proud to see Creepshow find its rightful place on comic book shelves everywhere!”

Skybound editor Jon Moisan adds, “Creepshow has consistently been one of the best things in horror for the last 40 years, and for Skybound to be able to carry on such a rich horror tradition is an absolute thrill. We knew a franchise this prolific would require the best talent in the industry, so we assembled a collection of creators that will do the Creepshow name proud. The stories they have planned are going to scare the absolute hell out of people.”

“Creepshow” #1 will be released in comics shops and online on September 21, with a main cover by Chris Burnham. Expect more talent to be announced for the series in the meantime.
