Writer Justin Jordan (“The Strange Talent of Luther Stode”) and artist Rebekah Isaacs (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) are bringing the “Suicide Squad” concept to fantasy comics, with Skybound Entertainment’s “Reaver.”

According to Polygon, which broke the news about the new series, “Reaver” will star a “Dirty Half-Dozen” of fantasy ne’er-do-wells who are being forced to run suicide missions for their government. Their first mission: destroy a secret weapon that could topple the very government they’ve been conscripted to work for.

“The continent of Madaras promised a new start for settlers… but 200 years after its discovery, the war rages on,” begins the series’s official description. “Deep within this savage and untamed land, a darkness builds at The Anvil that must be stopped at all costs. To do so, the Imperials assemble six of its most despicable prisoners — a turncoat, a skin eater, a sorcerer, his bodyguard, a serial killer, and the Devil’s Son. They are the only ones who can stop the end of the new world. They are Hell’s Half-Dozen.”

The book will feature colors by Alex Guimarães and covers by Becky Cloonan. If you want to learn more about “Reaver” before it launches on July 10, be sure to click over to Polygon to check out exclusive preview pages and Cloonan’s first three covers.
