It’s the event of your lifetime that you didn’t even know you wanted.
Announced in a PR call this afternoon, November will see the release of “Spider-Verse,” an event series by Mega-Spidey Fan Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel in which every single Spider-Man that ever was (ever) (for real) will go up against supervillain Morlun. For those unaware, Morlun’s most famous appearance to modern day fans was in his part of JMS’ epic run, in particular during the ‘Other’ storyline, in which Morlun beat Spider-Man brutally and without an eye — and, according to Slott, he’s back for more.
Oh. And he’s only the “initial” bad guy. Uh oh.
So “Spider-Verse” is part of a big, year long cavalcade of Spider-stories, including “Learning to Crawl,” the return of Peter in “Amazing” and even an “Original Sin” tie-in, packing in what is referred to as four years of stories into one year.
Oh, and remember when we said that Ultimate Peter Parker was coming back? According to Slott, he’s part of the event too. Maybe not in the way we’d think (flat-out resurrection), but apparently he has a role to play.
Along with every other Spider-Man ever. Good luck keeping track of all that!
“Spider-Verse” will run for six issues in “Amazing Spider-Man” starting with #9, and will include other tie-ins to be announced. There will also be a five-page short in the upcoming FCBD issue from Marvel this year, illustrated by Giuseppe Camuncoli. For the first five connected covers by Gabrielle Dell’Otto as apparently there is still something there they don’t want you to see, take a look below (or click here for a mega version):

And here is the recently released official press release:

Kicking off this November in Amazing Spider-Man #9 (with a special lead-in story on Free Comic Book Day), Slott and Coipel assemble an legion of Spider-Men from every corner of every universe. Peter Parker, Miguel O’Hara, Miles Morales and many, many more must unite to stop a seemingly insurmountable super-powered foe. It will take thousands of spider-powered heroes to battle back the greatest threat to this universe or any other!
“The scope of this event is so big, the word ‘epic’ just doesn’t do it justice,” says editor Nick Lowe. “The story is just huge and heartbreaking and has necessitated spreadsheets to organize all the Spider-Men. Luckily we have a writer who has proven time and time again he can thread impossible story-needles [Slott] and the most versatile character artist in the business [Coipel].”
