Sometimes The Light Reveals The Darkest Secrets

My favorite thing that DC does is release a poster full of varying images that connect based on an event or a coming event, etc. Let’s all be honest here – the best part of Countdown was the poser teasing Countdown! And now we have a teaser poster for Brightest Day, which is arguably the best part of Brightest Day!

So let’s break it down a tad (going clockwise from the top left):

1. We have the gateway that brought Hawkman and Hawkwoman into Hawkworld, as seen in Brightest Day.

2. Guy Gardner, Ganthet, and Atrocitus all rebuilding… something. This will assumedly take place in the Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors.

3. We have Hal Jordan in a White Lantern costume bleeding in what appear to be the broken remains of the White Lantern power battery. Behind him, the smokey and mysterious visage of the Anti-Monitor can be seen. This will assumedly be relevant within the pages of Brightest Day.

4. The tree from Green Arrow’s new Sherwood Forest stuck with little arrows inside next to a broken and bloodstained Star City sign. Unfortunately, J’onn J’onnz is setting it on fire – which is of course odd considering what he is most afraid of. Assumedly a reference to the Green Arrow title.

5. A pile of boomerangs, also covered in blood. I believe this is a reference to the rumored second death of Captain Boomerang, as seen in Brightest Day #0.

6. The new Aqualad, with his brand new mysterious power, next to some fallen tridents. Safe to assume this will be in Brightest Day as well.

7. Deadman carving into a tombstone “Rise”, the favored word of the White Lantern power battery. Look for more in … you guessed it! Brightest Day.

8. Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond attempting to lift boulders off the body of a dead Black Lantern, both with flames at their heels. Who is buried, though? And why is their a shield next to the pile of rubble?

9. Hawk and Dove holding the either dead or passed out body of Jade, another returned soul.

10. Mera rushing to her husband, who is poised on a rock apparently dead but with some kind of mysterious action taking place within.

I think that just about runs it down. I didn’t mention the weird red eye things behind Aqualad, or the intense lightning storm going on in the background. It’s also fit to mention that neither Max Lord or the Reverse Flash appear here, both of whom were brought back to life within the pages of Blackest Night. Lord is of course busy over in Generation Lost, but where is Professor Zoom?

Remember this poster once Brightest Day ends. We’ll look back and see what exactly was hidden here from the beginning.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
