At Marvel.com, writer Charles Soule took to reveal what this year’s ‘Hunt for Wolverine’ miniseries have been building up: “Return of Wolverine,” a five-issue miniseries pencilled by Steve McNiven, starting in September.

Soule and McNiven originally killed Wolverine back in 2014’s limited series “Death of Wolverine,” building on the events of Paul Cornell’s run where the clawed Canadian X-Man lost his accelerated healing powers. Soule wrote the subsequent series “The Logan Legacy,” and “Wolverines,” which led to Logan’s daughter Laura Kinney assuming the mantle (as well as a host of other Wolverines, including Old Man Logan and the Ultimate Universe’s Jimmy Hudson, being incorporated into the mainstream Marvel Universe).

After Wolverine was revealed to back from the dead in last year’s “Marvel Legacy,” Soule wrote April’s “Hunt for Wolverine” one-shot (drawn by David Marquez), which showed the other Marvel superheroes becoming aware of the disappearance of Wolverine’s body. The comic spiralled into four miniseries, one of which, “Weapon Lost,” is written by Soule and pencilled by Matteo Buffagni. These will culminate into August’s “Hunt for Wolverine: Dead Ends” (written by Soule with art by Ramon Rosanas), and “Return of Wolverine,” which brings Soule and McNiven full circle on the story of Wolverine’s death and resurrection.

Soule revealed Wolverine’s resurrection has gifted him with a new superpower. “I thought this was a real opportunity to do things that would make him feel new and fresh in a way; if you come back from the dead, it should mean something,” he said. “One of the outwardly physical manifestations of that is that now, from time to time, his claws—once they’re popped—they can heat up. They can get really hot.” A demonstration of Wolverine’s new power can viewed on Adam Kubert’s variant cover below:

“Return of Wolverine” #1 will be released on September 19.
