Spencer and Locke are making a comeback right in time for New York Comic Con: The Hollywood Reporter have announced the series’s third outing. The comic, which is a noir reimagining of “Calvin and Hobbes” by writer David Pepose and artist Jorge Santiago Jr., follows hard-boiled detective Locke and his partner Spencer, an imaginary panther that acts as the pair’s moral compass and a constant reminder of Locke’s trauma-ridden youth. All we know so far about the new series comes from the details in the teaser image and the tagline: “His partner was imaginary… but the reckoning is all real.”

The teaser image recreates the first issue’s cover, but adds a graffitied ginger cat, some empty peanut shells and an especially shy rat. The series is known for its parodies of classic comic strips and these new additions seem to be no exception, with the orange cat recalling Garfield, and the peanuts implying adult versions of the “Peanuts” Gang.

Although Pepose and Santiago are keeping quiet about “Spencer and Locke 3,” new details are likely to emerge at NYCC this week, seeing as Action Lab Comics will be set up at Booth 3044 for the event’s entirety.

No official release date has been announced as of yet.
