Spike TV has this annual Scream Award thing you may have heard about once or twice. Its a pop culture set of awards that usually have an all-star award show coupled with some pretty neat categories. Some of those include mentions of comic books, believe it or not! So why not take a look with us, eh?
First off, we have Best Comic Book or Graphic Novel: Asterios Polyp, Blackest Night, The Boys, Chew, Parker: The Hunter, Scalped, and The Walking Dead. Quite an impressive mix they’ve picked here. Asterios Polyp next to Blackest Night? Interesting. Personally, I’d only put my money towards Asterios, Chew, Parker, Scalped, and Walking Dead, and when it comes down to it I’d give the final vote to Walking Dead (as you may have seen earlier this week).
Next we have Best Comic Book Writer: Jason Aaron, Darwyn Cooke, Garth Ennis, Geoff Johns, Robert Kirkman, and Mike Mignola. An incredibly tough one, but you can see why they’re picking the writers as they do. I’d give it to Jason Aaron or Robert Kirkman personally, though. Kirkman is the evil mastermind behind the Walking Dead, and Jason Aaron wrote Wolverine: Weapon X and Scalped, both of which are phenomenal comics. It’s honestly a tough call.
Third, we have Best Comic Book Artist: Charlie Adlard, Darwyn Cooke, Fabio Moon, Frank Quitely, Jill Thompson, and JH Williams III. This is really no question here – JH Williams III is phenomenal, and deserves every award option given to him. His work on Detective Comics was nothing short of astounding, and I can only assume the best out of the upcoming Batwoman book.
Finally, we have Best Comic Book Movie: Iron Man 2, Kick-Ass, and The Losers. Oof. Not really much of a choice here, eh? I can predict Iron Man 2 taking this with quite a sweep, unless someone is drunk when they vote and accidentally lets Kick-Ass somehow win.
