Let’s not kid ourselves, we’re here for the trailer, right?

OK, so with that out of the way, this morning saw the cast and crew of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker convene for a panel at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago. Most of the cast of the film, along with writer/director J.J. Abrams and producer/Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy were in attendance. Here is a little bit from each of the interview segments with the cast:

Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) wanted to title his memoirs Telling the Odds, but the folks at the book company didn’t think people would get it.

Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calirssian) is tired of explaining that Lando didn’t betray Han, he just did what he had to do. Did anyone die?

Naomi Ackie (Jannah) is playing a character named Jannah that can neither be confirmed nor denied as being Lando’s daughter.

John Boyega (Finn) felt he never really had a costume in Star Wars until he saw his blue pants from this film.. Boyega also claims Captain Phasma is dead, but was really playing it up, so maybe not?. Love ‘pentagon’ exists between Finn, Poe, and Rose.

Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) says Poe is the better “Uber driver” than Han, but no one can pilot the Millennium Falcon like Han. Keeps hinting that Poe is in love with Finn.

Daisy Ridley (Rey) hints that maybe Rey exhibits new Force powers, and confirms ‘no more half-naked Kylo Ren.’

Kelly Marie Tran (Rose) wouldn’t say if Rose and Finn kiss in IX. Her reception from the crowd was truly touching after the terrible backlash against her after The Last Jedi.

Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca) shared a lovely photo of his baby son being held aloft by Chewbacca, and said that watching Star Wars as a kid made him feel like everyone has a place in the world.

We also met a new droid, D-O (Dio? Dee-Oh?) who looks like if the Pixar lamp mated with a duck. And, through some photographs, we met a new creatured named Klade, and saw the return of Snap Wexley (Greg Grunberg).

A few notes on the trailer:

– all three sequel era teaser trailers begin with heavy breathing. This probably means nothing.

– to quote my friend Alice W. Castle, Rey plays chicken with a TIE fighter and wins.

– Lando flies the Falcon. Hell yes.

– Palpatine returns. Is this some Expanded Universe clone shit or what?

– Luke’s narration (also, all three sequels have had trailers narrated by Luke) says the following:
We’ve passed on all we know
A thousand generations live in you now
But this is your fight

We’ll always be with you
No one’s ever really gone

– The text in the trailer:

Every generation has a legend
This Christmas, the Saga comes to an end

– As for the title…who knows?

Is it December yet?

Stay tuned for more discussion on this on the next Force Ghost Coast to Coast podcast, coming at the end of April.
