In today’s “Stargirl Spring Break Special,” DC quietly teased two new series, though the details of both are minimal.

“Stargirl” #1 is teased as the continuation of the main story from the special, but no creative team or release date was included in the reveal, which comes in the final panel of the issue. The one-shot was written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Todd Nauck, both of whom have a long history with the character. Johns is also executive producer of the CW’s Stargirl, as well as the character’s co-creator, so it would be surprising if he wasn’t involved with the title in some capacity.

Also teased is a new Justice Society of America title, featuring a revamped lineup that borrows heavily from Stargirl, as it features both a new, female, Doctor Mid-Nite and the return of Yolanda Montez as Wildcat. The JSA lineup also includes a lot of characters from Johns’s past runs on the title, including Cyclone, Power Girl, Hourman, Mister Terrific, The Flash (Jay Garrick), Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, Jade, Obsidian, Stargirl, and Jakeem Thunder/Thunderbolt. The short story that introduces this new team is called “Justice Society: Past is Prologue” and was written by Johns and illustrated by Bryan Hitch.

Johns, who wrote ongoing titles for these characters in the past, has been accused of improper behavior in his role as Executive Producer for Justice League. Additionally, Johns has not written a consistent, monthly comic for DC since his “Justice League” run ended in 2016. His most recent series was “Shazam,” which was frequently delayed and ended with an incomplete story, filled in by other writers.
