Many of you are probably aware of the classic comic book series “The Infinity Gauntlet,” in which Thanos takes control of an all powerful weapon and the world’s greatest heroes and more have to team up together to stop him. It’s what the Avengers film franchise is ostensibly moving towards, and it’s easily one of the most popular and influential comic books Marvel has ever done.
Now, the team behind that book are re-teaming for a Thanos-centric one-shot in advance of a Thanos-centric graphic novel that’ll be out later this year.
Written by Jim Starlin and illustrated by Ron Lim, Marvel has announced the “Thanos Annual,” which goes to Thanos’ past to answer clues about his present. It’s a bit strange, considering Marvel just released a Jason Aaron-written, Simone Bianchi-illustrated mini-series detailing Thanos’ origin, but c’es la vie. This sieres will find Thanos begging for death and to be greeted by the love of his life Death, but instead finding himself mixed up with Mephisto and “a mysterious being,” as Marvel teases, and reliving his greatest wins and losses.
The book teases itself as a prelude to the Jim Starlin-written graphic novel “The Infinity Revelation,” which was previously announced by Marvel, so whether this finds an amicable home within your collection is probably hit or miss at this point. Either way, look for the issue to come this May.
