Coming off the heels of yesterday’s announcement by The View regarding the new Thor, Marvel elected to have their new Captain America receive the Colbert bump on tonight’s Colbert Report.
Starting off by recapping the recent “Captain America” series, which he rightfully makes sound insane, Colbert tells the audience how Steve Rogers was aged by The Iron Nail before getting the audience to root for Colbert to take up the shield himself. After Colbert finished bragging over his qualifications, Joe Quesada appeared from nowhere like a sinister ghost to reveal what’s going on with Captain America. After again denying that Colbert is the next Cap, Quesada revealed that our new Captain America is indeed Sam Wilson AKA The Falcon, as had been heavily speculated.
Colbert then made some sort of uncomfortable jokes in the name of satire (“Shouldn’t [Sam Wilson] be Captain African-America?”) before revealing some artwork from Kris Anka of Colbert as the new Falcon.

Plus, Colbert’s new catchphrase as Falcon:
“Why did the Falcon cross the road? For justice, motherfucker.”
Also of note was Colbert asking Quesada if this was going to take an effect in the movies with Quesada replying that this would only be in the comics which didn’t surprise me as a regular comic book reader, but still disappointed me when stated aloud.
We’ll keep this post updated with the artwork as soon as it’s available online. In the meantime we can’t wait for the Iron Man announcement, at this point likely coming from Monday Night RAW.
Update: We now have the official art of Sam Wilson as Cap. Plus, the creative team on the new book – titled “All-New Captain America” – is the outrageously great combination of Rick Remender and Stuart Immonen.
