Marvel Comics have announced that, following the “Death of Doctor Strange” event series, Stephen Strange’s longtime love interest Clea will be succeeding him as Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme. She will take center stage in a new series, simply titled “Strange,” written by Jed MacKay with art by Marcelo Ferreira (who previously collaborated together on the tie-in issue “Death of Doctor Strange: Spider-Man.”) The book will see Clea trying to bring back her dead love, while assuming his duties defending the world from magical threats.

MacKay commented, “After the apocalyptic events of ‘The Death of Doctor Strange,’ there’s a new Sorcerer Supreme in residence at 177A Bleecker Street, and a new Doctor Strange — Clea Strange. And she’s got her work cut out for her — when she’s not fighting off the magical gangsters of the Blasphemy Syndicate, or battling undead super-monsters, she’s going after what’s hers: the late Stephen Strange. Clea is of the Faltine, that race of Warlords and conquerors, and like her relatives Dormammu and Umar, she will not be thwarted in her desires, not even by the mysterious Harvestman standing in her way.”

He added, “It’s been really exciting to open up a new chapter in the world of Doctor (Clea) Strange, to get some new adventures going and some new weirdies on the table, and I can’t wait for folks to come along with us!”

Clea first appeared as the captive daughter of a disciple of Dormammu in Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s “Strange Tales” #126 (cover date November 1964), and was soon revealed to be the Dread One’s own niece. She later married Strange, but their relationship became strained, and they separated when she returned to the Dark Dimension to lead the resistance against her uncle; the characters would eventually make their divorce official in 2016’s “Doctor Strange Annual.”

The new “Strange” #1 will be released on March 2, 2022, shortly after the fifth and final issue of “Death of Doctor Strange” on January 26.
