Stranger Things fans who are curious about the origins of Project MKUltra and Dr. Brenner’s Hawkins Laboratory are in for a treat this May with the release of a new four-part comic series. Dark Horse Comics has enlisted writer Jody Houser (who penned the initial “Stranger Things” comic), penciller Edgar Salazar (“Constantine,” “Smallville”), inker Keith Champagne (“JSA,” “Superboy”), colorist Triona Farrell (“Mech Cadet Yu,” “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”), and letterer Nate Piekos (“Fight Club 3,” “Doctor Star & The Kingdom of Lost Tomorrows”) for “Stranger Things: SIX,” the first prequel comic series for the hit Netflix Original.

According to Dark Horse, “’Stranger Things: SIX’ follows Francine, a teenage girl with precognition. She’s struggled through a lifetime of exploitation: first by her parents, then by Dr. Brenner of Hawkins Laboratory. Dr. Brenner wants to harness her powers as well as those of the other gifted children that they hold captive at the lab. Wracked by increasingly disturbing visions, she sees an opportunity to change her life. But at what cost?” The book’s title is a reference to the TV show’s characters Eleven and Eight, other girls who had their names taken away and were experimented on by Dr. Brenner.

The first issue of “Stranger Things: SIX” will go on sale May 29, 2019, and is available for preorder at your local comic book shop. It will have covers by Aleksi Bricolt, Kyle Lambert, and David Mack. In their press release, Dark Horse also teased a “Stranger Things” story for their Free Comic Book Day Gold 2019 offering, out May 4. Stranger Things season 3 will be released on Netflix on July 4.
