Just announced at the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros./DC Entertainment have scored a coup for the upcoming “Suicide Squad” film that’s set to arrive in 2016, as they’ve announced that Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne will star in the film. It’s who they are playing that’s a bit all over the place, but that’s a hell of a start in terms of getting an A List cast involved. Here’s who each will be playing:
– Will Smith is Deadshot
– Tom Hardy is team leader Rick Flagg
– Jared Leto is The Joker
– Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn
– Jai Courtney is Boomerang
– Cara Delevingne is Enchantress
That’s an interesting combination, but one that shows promise. If I had my druthers, Smith would be Flagg (it’s the more typically heroic role, and the one who kind of centers the group even though it’s a madhouse) and Hardy would be Deadshot, because that dude is freaking tailor made to play Deadshot (I’m a Hardy fanboy, but come on now), but maybe that reversal of my expectation will make it all the better. We already pretty much knew about Leto and Robbie, and they’re fine and interesting castings featuring two quality actors.
The last two are problematic, as Jai Courtney has the acting range of most uninspired child actors, and Delevingne really hasn’t acted in anything, as she’s mostly known as a fashion model (save for a performance in three movies and one Die Antwoord music video), but they may surprise us.
That’s that though. It’s an interesting combination, and it will all be brought together by writer/director David Ayer, the director of this year’s “Fury” (which was excellent by the way). There’s a chance that this could be great, and at the very least it’s going to be an awesome movie to watch on cable when there’s nothing on.
“Suicide Squad” arrives August 5th, 2016. What are your thoughts, oh faithful commenters?
