This will be the latest in a long line of Black Label books about the Joker: the imprint’s first title in 2018 happened to be Azzarello and Lee Bermejo’s “Batman: Damned,” which was also centered around the character’s demise. However, that series focused on Batman, and not Jason, who was infamously murdered by the Joker in 1988’s ‘A Death in the Family.’
Not counting older comics republished under the Black Label name, this will be Azzarello’s third title at the imprint, following 2020’s “Birds of Prey” one-shot (illustrated by Emanuela Lupacchino), which was originally intended as a regular, monthly DC title. This will also be Maleev’s first Black Label comic.
“Suicide Squad: Get Joker!” #1 will release on August 3, and like all Black Label titles, it will not be suitable for readers under the age of 17. The 48-page comic will retail for $6.99, and have a main cover by Maleev, as well as a variant by Jorge Fornes. The release will coincide with the debut of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6; a movie that will, ironically, not feature Jared Leto as the Joker.
